Eye problems after surgery

On Feb 2, 09 I had left eye operated on to remove cataract.  During follow-up visits, described to doctor that I was experiencing symptoms that are extremely difficult to deal with (i.e. sensitivity to light is acute, left side of eye has constant feel of a "tear" even though the Doctor states the eye looks good and no tear is present).  Subsequently, right eye was operated on Mar 16, 09.  Experiencing similar problems with the right eye, this time in the right corner of the eye.  Also, my left eye QUIVERS - on occasion - and during these times, vision is impaired.  I have discussed this numerous times with my doctor and he can only recommend having accupuncture (which I had this past Friday) with no favorable results.  This past Friday I passed out in the early morning, hitting my head on the kitchen tiles and causing two schull fractures with minor bleeding.  Discharged from hospital today.  SO, my attention is again turned to the ongoing eye problems.  Please advise - Thanks

While I very much appreciate your interest in providing a response; trying to deal with the symptoms developed since having cataract surgery has been extremely difficult.  More than the sensitivity to light, the constant feeling of having a TEAR in the corner of each eye - makes me feel there is something there that shouldn't be and it feels blurred AND quivers.  I spoke with my eye doctor today and he said there was nothing more he could do.  He believes there may be some nerve damage which, in time, will heal itself.  I asked him if a Neuropthomogilist may be able to help, and he said he did not believe it is something they could help with.  Have you ever heard of anyone with similar symptoms?; and if so, how long does it normally take to see clearly again without these awful irratations.  Again, thanks - it means a great deal to receive information.  Evie

Dear Evie45,

It is normal to have some light sensitivity, irritation of your eyes following cataract surgery. Every person has a different tolerance to light, surgery and eyes and people heal differently.  I would recommend finding out why you passed out.  This may indicate another issue as well.  If your eyes are bothersome, have them checked again.
