"A major deciding factor in finding the ophthalmic surgeon was their education and their replies to a 50 question cataract surgery checklist I found online. Only FOUR surgeons out of 22 that I "interviewed" for the surgery would provide me the information I requested. "

Would you be so kind as to post the quetions or the URL (link) to your 50 questiions?
Thanks so much in advance!

I am one week post-op and have had a tremendous positive outcome with my Crystalens HD500 (Diopter: 21.50) IOL. I can see distance and intermediate vision with no problems, and my near vision is improving on a daily basis. I am a 52 year old white male diagnosed in January 2009 with a Posterior subcapsular cataract in my right eye. My left eye has no cataract and my vision is 20/15.

In December 2003 I had Lasik surgery performed on both eyes, correcting my vision to 20/15 bilaterally. I went back to the same ophthalmic surgeon here in Houston who performed my Lasik in January 2009 when I noticed rapidly decreasing vision in my right eye. The surgeon and his head Optometrist in his practice were pushing for me to have surgery the following week in my right eye and utilize a Acrysof ReSTOR IOL. They were also adamant that I also have the Acrysof ReSTOR IOL implanted into my left eye a week later following the right eye surgery. They claimed it was necessary for the Acrysof ReSTOR IOL to perform in an optimum fashion.

I went home and got to work investigating my IOL options and to find THE BEST ophthalmic surgeon in the Houston area to perform this surgery. It took me about three weeks to decide that the Crystalens HD was the best IOL for me, and another four weeks to find an ophthalmic surgeon that I felt comfortable with and QUALIFIED.

A major deciding factor in finding the ophthalmic surgeon was their education and their replies to a 50 question cataract surgery checklist I found online. Only FOUR surgeons out of 22 that I "interviewed" for the surgery would provide me the information I requested.

The ophthalmic surgeon I choose had the following credentials:

M.D., Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
Ph.D., Tulane University, New Orleans, La.
Internship/Residency, Baylor College of Medicine affiliated hospitals, Houston, Texas.
Fellowship-Cornea/Anterior Segment Surgery, LSU Eye Center, New Orleans, La.
Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.
Post Graduate Research/Teaching:
~2 years Ophthalmology, Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, Ca.
~15 years Ophthalmology, Molecular Virology, and Microbiology, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
~4 years Visual Science A Study Section, National Institutes of Health.
Private Practice, Houston, Texas since 1987.

Under no circumstance should you rush into this surgery scmite, do your homework and find the correct IOL for you and a qualified surgeon that you trust.

This forum is primarily for people who are having problems of some kind, so you are likely to get a negative impression of just about any product here. I have read reports from at least a few other users here who seem to be happy with their Crystlenses.

I have had a positive outcome (so far) with Crystalens HD's. My surgeries were in January, so I still have stitches in one eye, so my results are not "final". I can see well from about 12" to infinity. Best vision is from 16" to six feet. Beyond that things are a bit blurry with relaxed eyes (not bad, just not really sharp), but I can bring them into focus with a little effort.

I was not expecting perfect vision at all distances, although I hoped I might get that. My near vision is better than I expected, and my far vision is not yet as good as expected, but is good enough for my lifestyle. I only need glasses for reading very small print in dim light.

I am very happy that I chose Crystalens HD's, compared to other options that are available today. However, I know they are not right for everyone, and that any given patient (with any medical procedure) can have unexpected problems. I did my research, picked an excellent doctor, had realistic expectations, made my choice, and was fortunate to have a good outcome.
