Pupil in one eye is so dialated it looks like my mom has one blue eye and one brown eye

My mother had caterac surgery in  both her eyes not too long ago. When they did the first eye everything went perfect, although he presure in her eye had to be wathced because it elevated up to 32. When she had her second eye done, the next day after surgery her presure in the eye was 52 and her Pupil was extremely dialated. The doctor told her it would go away that it was too recent.... well 6 weeks later her pupil is still dialated and the light really bothers that eye. She went back to the doctor and he said in his 38 years of practice he has never seen such a case. He thinks what happened is that her pressure in the her got so high that it damaged the muscle that retracts the  pupil. I feel sad for her because it looks like one eye is blue and the other brown. The doctor said they could try to fix it but he felt the damage is permanant.Amother suggestion he had was to put a contact in to make her eye look more normal. My mother is too old(she says to mess with contacts)She is 77 so I can understand her, but do you have ay other cases like this. Please advice. Thank you.

Thank you very much for your response. Are there any serious side effects to these drops? They did precrsibe eyeglasses for her and she can see better, but the light really bothers her.She wears sunglasses to help. Again thank you very much for your help.

I've seen similar situations and yes, it is most likely related to a traumatic surgery combined with extremely high pressures.  She can try pilocarpine drops and sometimes even alphagan will help.  If this doesn't work, then surgery on the iris is an option if necessary - but not really an easy surgery for most ophthalmologists.  I would try to avoid it if she can.  Unfortunately, that's about the extent of the situation.  I hope it all works out for the best.  If she wants to have the iris surgically altered she needs to find a surgeon quite adept at it.
