ROP after sucessful laser

My nearly 3 yr old daughter was born 15 weeks early, developed stage 3 ROP. Laser surgery was sucessful and she is doing well with no need for glasses to date. We see a retinal specialist in southern California who has followed her since he did her laser treatment. Today he said all is still well. He told us she will need to be seen every 6 months for the rest of her life. Also said due to her history she needs to be checked fir retinal detachment (different type) forever.

I'm wondering what precautions we can take in her life to help prevent this and how likely it is yo happen. I was feeling good about her outcome so far but am scared again!
Thanks.

Thanks. We have also been seeing a pediatric opthamologist. He has seen her several times and she does not need glasses at this point. She is slightly nearsighted but nit enough to need correction yet.

If she has only seen a retinal specialist, then your first move should be to take her to a pediatric ophthalmologist.  There are plenty in southern California, you can find one near you at www.aapos.org.
