Reason for pinhole test?

Is it true that if you are having difficulties with your vision whether its up close or far away. If you look through a pinhole and the double or blurriness goes away then its to do with your eye like a refractive error or tiredness and not due to an eye disease, brain problem (like a tumor) or something like that.

Im in my 20s and been having issues with my vision up close (eventhough i have contacts for distance) that randomly comes and goes but if i look through a pinhole (2mm) on a business card then my vision is perfect for close up and distance. Is this a good sign?

The pinholes serve a similar purpose as lenses that refract light. By narrowing the path of the light reflected from objects in your surroundings, every ray is a straight line, and so, perfectly in focus. It is only the indirect or lines of light that come at an angle into your eye that are blurred that cause you to need glasses. The pinholes, in effect, filter these out.
So, you are right. If the pinholes improve your vision, your problem is one of refraction and it sounds like you ar having problems "accommodating" enough to overcome the vision correction for distance that your contacts give you.

wow thankyou for your help!! i was just worried that it could be due to a neurological problem but thats a relief to find out that its not

its just weird that sometimes i see it even without my contacts or glasses on but i mostly only see it (or it gets worse) with my contacts on. Does this mean that my perscription could be too strong? how would i fix this accomodating problem =S because i get alot of eye strain and sore eyes which is really starting to annoy me. Im trying not to wear my glasses or contacts at all but i kind of rely on them to watch tv so its a bit hard.
