Red burning eyes

Hi. I have had red burning eyes for around a week now. I went to the optician and he said it looks like an allergy as i have bumps on inside of the lids of my eyes, which i can see. I also have a stuffy nose and a slight cough. I went swimming a week ago and was wondering if this could be the cause, i inhaled water up my nose which hurt around my sinus at the time? Thanks.

It was my opthalmist who said i had an allergy and mild blepharitis. My eyes dont itch but they water. The skin under my eyes is very dry and red and sometimes itchy. Im not sure if this is related to the blepharitis? I am using a hot compress and massaging my eyes twice a day.

You need to go see an ophthalmologist to confirm the findings and make recommendations.  A viral infection is also a possibility.  If you were swimming in a fresh water natural lake, river, etc it is also important to inform your ophthalmologist.  If you wear contact lenses, stay out of them until you get seen by an ophthalmologist/ eye MD>
