Retina scarring caused during macular hole repair surgery - is it permanent?

Last month I underwent eye surgery to repair a macular hole in my right eye.  2 weeks later at my hospital appointment the surgeon was pleased to tell me the repair had worked, though I said my vision was worse now than before.  That's when I was first told that during the surgery scarring had been caused to my retina as there had been difficulty taking out the fluid and it had pulled on my retina, thus leaving the scar.  The surgeon said the scarring may be what is causing the distorted vision.  He said my expectations were too high and that my vision would not get back to the sight it was before the hole, but I did expect it to be better than the surgery.  Will the scarring go and my vision improve?  Was my surgeon negligent if he caused the retina scarring during the operation?

It  often takes up to 6 months to determine the results of macular surgery. Generally the surgery is done to make the vision better or stop from getting worse. often normal vision is not possible to restore. I would suggest you get independent 2nd opinion from a different retina surgeons. you would need to get copies of your records including macular OCTS.
