Dear Sonee,
This is a very good question and should be directed to both of your mom’s eyeMD’s.

I would ask the doctor.
I don't know if it is appropriate to use steroids to treat a detachment. From my understanding of retinal detachments they generally require surgical intervention to corect. However, I do know that in general prenisolone acetate opthalmic soluction eye drops are prescribed to help combat inflammation. Generally, they are used after eye surgeries to help the eye heal. Since prednisolone is a steroid it can cause an increased susceptibility to infections so it may be paired with an antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or gatifloxacin. As with all medicines it is important to seek the advice of your physician about its safety.
