Setting of monofocal lenses

If monofocal lenses are chosen can they be set like monovision contacts to eliminate the need for glasses or do they both need to be set for either distance or near. What then happens to intermediate vision....computer etc.
Thanks you

If the range for monovision doesn't exceed 2 diopters (e.g., plano and -2D), intermediate (computer) vision is good.  When the range exceeds 2 diopters, there will probably be a gap in crisp vision.

Monovision can be accomplished with contact lenses, refractive surgery (e.g., LASIK, PRK), and cataract surgery (monofocal IOLs).

The best candidate for monovision with IOLs is someone who has been successful with monovision with contacts or post-LASIK/PRK.
