So I'm paying for a vitrectomy out of pocket

My surgeon is great and is doing the surgery for free. I was told to call the hospital and see what the cost of use would be for the out patient surgery. My doctor gave me CPT code of 67108. I got my estamite from the hospital and it's a staggering $15,000 dollars for us just to use the room. I Googled CPT codes and one site was AMA. Both sites said $1500.00 for code 67108. Can anyone tell me what to expect the hospital to charge for this? Not for the surgery, just for the privilege of using the place. They will give me a huge discount if I pay within 30 days but still the 15,000 price might be an error for the use of room. Thanks I am supposed to have this very soon as I can hardly see.

Thanks, you are right. The whole office is in shock that hes doing this. I think we hit it off some way. I guess he liked my humor and attitude. I really like him as a human.

Thanks for the info from someone that knows. Words can't express how I feel about my surgeon for doing this for me. I was in shock when I heard. Just wanted to know if the 15,000 fee seems ti natch up with what the room will be used for. Mistakes do happen and I have no way to verify it that I know of unless there is a way via the Internet. Thanks!

The code is for what the surgeon is doing.  It says nothing about the costs of the OR, recovery, anesthesia, medications, etc etc etc. $15,000 is actually on the low side.

Look at it this way. Your surgeon is doing the operation for free. The hospital has spent over a quarter of a million dollars just to equip one operating room to do retina-vitreous surgery.
