Subnormal vision - possible due to cold

Recently I have developed a a substantial decrease in my vision of left eye.
It feels like I see lesser colors and contrast as compared to right eye which is fine.

I have myopia since childhood - but this symptom of diminished vision in one eye is new.
My left eye ball hurts too.
My opthalmologist said that it could be inflammation of the optical nerves caused to my cold.

I  feel the rod and cone cells in my retina are degenerating slowly.
Is there a dietery approach to rebuild my retina's health ?

This is probably optic neuritis and not a retinal problem.
