Restore with "wrong power" and piggy back lens

About one month ago I had cataract surgery for my left eye and had a restore multi focal implant. I have fairly high myopia about -8 with little to no astigmatism. After surgery I had a large abrasion on my cornea that healed, but my vision has not been as I expected with the iol. While I can definately see better than before my eye is only about 20/40 for distance and I can't read or see intermediate well. I delayed the second eye surgery while I am now wearing one contact and relying on reading glasses, which is very annoying. My eye doctor loosened the stictch in my eye to help with some double vision but said the power may be off and suggested a piggy back lens. Would that be approriate and effective with a multifocal? Wouldn't having another lens on top of the concentric rings just make it more difficult for my eyes to adapt. I am ready to just go back to my variable lens glasses and hope I can find a prescription that I can see with.

You might consider getting a second (and third?) opinion(s) from other surgeons who are experienced with the ReStor lens.

It is important to be patient following cataract surgery, especially with a multifocal implant.  This can be more difficult with a multifocal implant in only one eye.  However, I would not recommend undergoing surgery in your second eye until your vision has stabilized and the prescription of the eye is known.  I would go back to your doctor or at the very least, call his/her office and get your questions answered.  Why is he/she recommending a piggyback lens?  What is the prescription of the eye?  Can you read in bright light?  Other options if the prescription is further away than desired is laser vision correction, a contact lens, or spectacles.

If the prescription is "further away", does that mean if I need a stronger distance perscription than I have currently? I cannot read in any light without reading glasses.  Also I am still wondering if a piggyback lens (supposedly to give me more power) would work with a multifocal. Has anyone heard of this? Of course I am still hopeful that I will have some improovement, but I honestly miss my variable bifocals glasses. Thanks for your help. I do have an appointment tomorrow.
