Technis multifocal IOL problems

I had a Technis multifocal IOl implanted March 14,2012. I am having glare ,loss of contrast, blurry, hazy vision intermediate and far. I can read pretty clearly.  Night vision is worse than before the cataract removal with severe halos and glare that obscures features on the road. I have 1/2 diopter  astigmatism in that eye. It was 1 1/2 diopters so it is improving. My surgeon has asked if I want the IOL explanted and replaced with a monofocal IOL but he says he won"t do it after 3 months.
My eye is still healing and the vision is improving somewhat so I am very reluctant to risk explant and damage to my eye prematurely.
what is the time limit for explant that you recommend? how risky is explant? my surgeon says he has only done about 5 or 6 explants.
What is your experience with patients who have only one multifocal IOL ?

Hi,
this is a difficult question to answer. If you are experiencing Irregular Astigmatism or Higher Order Aberrations or significant Ammetropia, then the results will not be great. Ammetropia may be fixed without IOL explant, but Irregular Astigmatism may need IOL explant. The IOL may be removed even years later, you just need to go to a surgeon with lots of experience in doing this procedure.
Best wishes,
Tim

I cannot seem to find out what Irregular astigmatism, Ammetropia or Higher Order Abberrations are. Could you give me a brief definition of each condition? Thanks so much.

Thank you for replying to my question.  I am not familiar with the conditions you listed  but will look them up to see if they are what I am experiencing.
