Oil bubbles in Vision - Victrectomy post op

    My Father just had a victrectomy surgery for a detached retina, .. the procedure used to fix it was injecting silicone oil in his eye,..
it has been 10 days, .. post his surgery, ... and he has an improvement of vision, .. but when he looks in the open, out of the window he sees oil floalters,.. more like oil bubbles, .. is that normal to see.

I would guess that they could be air bubbles and should disappear in a couple weeks. I had them after my vitrectomy in which the silicone oil holds the lasered retina in place for several months. They could also be "heavy oil" that came with the "surgical grade" silicone oil. I had such a heavy bubble that settled on the bottom of my eyeball. I viewed it as on top as everything in the eye is viewed at.180 degrees opposite. My heavy bubble would split into smaller bubbles, but usually would merge back into the main bubble after some rest. My second vitrectomy to remove the silicone oil took care of the heavy oil bubble, too. However, it is very hard to remove all the silicone oil and some oil bubbles may remain. My "fish egg" bubbles are now gone after about 2 months, but one medium size bubble remains in my bottom view and I will just have to live with that. As I understand it, vitrectomys are not an exact science, no two are the same, everybody's recovery is differant, and I am just very grateful to have eyesight in my right eye after a retinal detachment.
