What do you mean by "try this out at home"? Just try putting on only one contact lens?
This sensation may be due to eye fatigue, or asthenopia. Your contact lens and glasses prescription should be checked, to be sure they are correct and current. Since you are nearsighted, it is possible that you could wear one contact lens for distance, and read with the other uncorrected eye. You can try this out at home, and see it it works for you. There are many factors which go into a decision to perform LASIK. If you are interested in this approach, I would see an ophthalmologist to determine whether this is appropriate for you.
