Treatment retinal tears in Brazil

hi am Brazilian.

I had tears in retina and floaters, i did treatment with argon laser. Despite treatment, i still see the little white flashes, it's normal? Because my doctor said it's ok. About the treatment, in USA, is done only with laser too?

Thanks!

vitreous degeneration (more accurately vitreous liquification (syneresis)) and PVD are normal. Retinal tears are common but not "normal". Holes without vitreous traction carry low risk of retinal detachment.  You will need to ask your retina ophthalmologist to assign your "risk"

Hi Doctor,

I noticed a slight myopia in my right eye. It has nothing to do with vitreous degeneration and retinal tears right? Because my doctor said I should come back only if there was loss of vision, myopia in this case does not fit right?

Thanks!!

I understand.

My brother has just discovered the same problem. He also had tears in the retina and did laser treatment. About the small bright lights, the strange are the situations that happen: i see these litle white flashing dots when i am nervous, anxious like i a job interview for exemple and when i am laughing, talking enthusiastically with others people or in the computer or TV with a white background.

I do not know if in all these situations, vitreo-retina traction would be guilty.  would be coincidence?

Thanks Dr.

Yes really seems, my doctor is one of the best of my state, maybe in Brazil. But sometimes the problem is very common for you, the doctors, without bigger problems, but for us, patients, is the end of the world haha.

Vitreous detachment, vitreous degeneration and retinal tears are normal ophthalmologic problems and natural, am I right? Visiting the doctor every year, the chance of something more serious happening is rare, am I right?

Thank you and sorry for a lot of questions, is the last!

Thank you Dr John!

My doctor says I'm fine. I did 4 times laser treatment to seal the ruptures and 1 time preventive treatment with laser in fragile areas to prevent new tears. But you now, we always were afraid of blindness.

But it's good to read opnion from another doctor, it is relaxing! I feel better now!

Brazil has fine ophthalmologists  and treatment is pretty easy so no need to come to USA.  Treatment  is usually  laser or freezing.  Cryotherapy.  Flashes may persist after treatment  Let your ophthalmologist  determine if you are healing well.
