Twitching eye AND Posterior Vitreous Detachment

I read the other threads regarding "twitching" in an eye and that is what originally led me to this site.  I am under a lot of stress (caring for my 88-year old mother, my husband has had two open-heart surgeries and  my little dog is terminally ill) and I am not sleeping well (never have been a sound sleeper).

Approximately six years ago I was diagnosed with Posterior Vitreous Detachment in both eyes and the "symptoms" nearly make me crazy!!  My problems are significantly noticeable, I have a seriously hard time dealing with bright or natural light, but my night vision is crystal clear.

I've had the noticeable "twitching" in my right eye for weeks.  I have had a retina specialist for many years but he abruptly retired several months ago, only weeks after my last appointment with him.  My husband asked his ophthamologist about my "twitching" and he said he suspected stress/sleep deprivation but I have not made an appointment to see him.

I'm wondering if there could be any correlation between the PVD and the "twitching"?  I'm 62, in good health and take no prescription medications.  I've tried prescription sleep aids but they either seem to bother my vision or leave me feeling worse the next day than I feel missing sleep.  I've been sleep deprived so long I think I'm used to it but I know it's not good for me.

Thank you, Dr. O.,

Last night, after reading so much information here, I happened to remember I had a bottle of Patanol in the medicine cabinet and I used it.  I may be guilty of wishful thinking but it seemed like my eye felt dramatically better.

I used the Patanol again this morning and so far so good.
