Undercorrection vs overcorrection?

Which is worse? To wear glasses that are too weak or too strong? Assume that getting the correct prescription isnt an option for me. Wearing ones that are too strong will weaken my eyes, correct? What about ones that are too weak? Arent my eyes straining less with weak ones than they would on my normal vision? So wont they still slow down the vision loss process? Thanks

So even after the rx has been reduced i should expect weeks for the pulling and tension feeling in my eyes and any tension in my head to go away?

I can't tell whether you have the right RX or not. Nor can I determine if the feeling you have is due to the RX or some other problem.
Yes, I can understand that. Theoretically, if the rx is correct now, and no other issue is present, does it still take some time for the eye muscles to relax and the discomfort to subside?

I have made another appt to have my rx checked again because there is still the pulling sensation when focusing and just an overall "unevenness" feeling with my vision. My dr has checked my astjigmatism and how the contacts are sitting on my eye and neither seem to be an issue.
As I said before:    If you were over-corrected (glasses made too strong) could take several weeks for your eyes to relax and accept the weaker prescription.
Thank you so much for your help!

Along similar lines with headaches. My RX is -15 and im wearing rgp lenses with piggybacks bc soft and hybrids are not an option for me. The first 6 weeks I battled dry eye but thats improved some. The next 4 weeks I started having headaches after working 6-8 hours and doing a lot of reading. Went back to the dr and they had over corrected one of my eyes. They ordered a new lense and 3 weeks went by before I could get it. In the meantime the headaches progressed to daily and I would wake up and 15 min into the day while still in glasses Id have a headache. I went 36 hours in glasses and still felt strain when focusing. Got the new lense 2 days ago and still feeling a pull in my eyes when focusing and a milder headache when focusing. What could be the issue? Can the eye muscle take longer to calm down from a strained state bc 3 weeks went by in over correction?

What is your age? The answer depends on that.
I am 30yr old and female
At your age the focus muscle (ciliary body) is still quite strong. All your tests for glasses or contact lens should be made AFTER they eyes are dilated and that muscle relaxed. Otherwise if done without dilation the RX is often too strong.  If you were over-corrected (glasses made too strong) could take several weeks for your eyes to relax and accept the weaker prescription.
So even after the rx has been reduced i should expect weeks for the pulling and tension feeling in my eyes and any tension in my head to go away?
I said it MAY take several weeks not that it WOULD.  People vary in adaptation
Im sorry I should have said could. Thank you for your help!

Thank you for the suggestion.
I wore only the minus 1.25 glasses until last week when I had my exam.
I was given a new prescription of minus 2.50 for each eye,and it was determined that my uncorrected vision is 20/300 in each eye.
The new glasses are a little hard to get used to. Everything in the distance is super sharp, but close objects seem so small. The doctor said that they would take some getting used to.
Assuming that the minus 1.25 glasses were pretty close to what I needed a year ago,is an increase to 2.50 about normal?
At age thirty one will my glasses get much stronger. The doctor wants to see me in a year, for another exam.
My vision without glasses now seems more blurred than than with the previous pair.

   Thank you for your reply.
I actually probably misstated that I am farsighted.
It would be more correct to say that I was prescribed glasses for farsightedness.
Beginning at about age seventeen,I would get intermittent distance blur after doing a lot of close work. At about twenty seven I went for my first eye exam with an optometrist, and he said there was no need for glasses. About a year later I went to a second optometrist because the blur seem worse, and he gave me +.75 lenses for each eye,and implied to use them for reading. They made no difference, and when I went back about two months later with this complaint,he became quite stern, and said that I should be wearing them constantly from morning to night.I followed his instructions, and had no improvement,so went to a second optometrist wearing the glasses, and he prescribed + 1.00 for the left, and + 1.00 with - .25 cyl. for the right, and said to only use them for close work.I did this for two years, with no change at all with the distance blur after reading. Then went to a third optometrist, and he prescribed + 1.50 for each eye with no cylinder, and said to use only for reading. These glasses made no change in the problem either.
About six months later, while going through some of my deceased fathers belongings,I found a pair of his old glasses. In the case was a prescription card. His age at the time of this prescription was my  age of thirty. The prescription was -1.00 for each eye.I tried the glasses on,and found that my distance vision was very sharp, and that I could see detail in the distance, that were not clear without the glasses. I tried reading a book with them, and discovered that I had no distance blur at all,no matter how long I read. I also noticed that I had to push the book further from my eyes to discern the print clearly.I had been reading at about ten inches with the plus glasses, and now with the minus had to hold the print at about twelve. The frames were quite outdated so I only wore them at home.I obtained a Snellen vision chart, and determined that my vision with the glasses to be 20/30,and without them 20/100. I could discern the 20/40 line without the glasses if I squinted.  I ordered the -1.25 glasses online based on this, and found that with them I see 20/15 with each eye. If I try squinting now without glasses there is no improvement. As I stated in the earlier post that my distance blurring problem is gone. So most likely I really was nearsighted way back at seventeen years old,and had been misdiagnosed by more than one optometrist.I have worn these glasses for a bit over a year now,and they sometimes feel too weak when my eyes are tired so that is when I use the - 1.75 pair.
I do plan on making an appointment for an exam.
Do you think that I would get a more accurate prescription by wearing the weaker -1.25 glasses,or the -1.75 a few weeks prior to the exam?I don't think that I could go without them prior to the exam,as my eyes are quite dependent on them.

What you are doing is not a good practice and I would strongly urge you to see an ophthalmologist to see what your true need for glasses is. Find an Eye MD near you at www.geteyesmart.org

I am slightly farsighted, and was prescribed plus 1.50 glasses for reading but I found them to be uncomfortable, and had eyestrain when reading with them I now wear minus 1.25  glasses that I purchased online.
The intense clarity, and wide field of vision are stimulating to my eyes.
At first these glasses were a bit hard to get used to, but I found that if I put them on first thing in the morning and kept them on all day,to include close work, that now I wear them constantly, because without them vision at all distances is blurred.
Recently I felt that they were not strong enough at night ,so I purchased another pair of minus 1.75.for night driving,or TV, if my eyes feel tired.

Wearing glasses that are too weak or too strong will only have the potential to damage the sight in children up to the age of about 6 or 7. After that the only problem they will cause is blurred vision or perhaps some mild headache or eye strain. They will not damage the eye.
