I am and 18 y/o male who had a vitrectomy for a macula-off detachment. That was a month ago and my vision is 20/40 without corrective lenses in the operated left eye. However, objects seem smaller and slightly distorted, and straight lines are slightly wavy. it is my understanding that this is a cause of the photoreceptors being stretched and misplaced because of the macula off detachment. I have read that this can greatly improve over the next 3-12 months, because those misplaced receptors can realign to where they are supposed to be. I still have 30% of the bubble in my eye. The weird thing is that my left eye used to be extremely nearsighted, but now it seems to be very farsighted. I thought this operation caused nearsightedness, not far. So if someone could explain that, that would be awesome. Also, is there hope that the distortion will improve to the point where it is barely noticeable? I know it varies and is unpredictable, but just asking if there is hope. thanks
