Weiss ring

After getting hit in the eye with a tennis ball I was told by my retinologist that I merely had a bruise and that the pain and redness and very vague shadow at night would disappear. 8 days after the incident all symptoms disappeared. But then a week later I saw a weiss ring floater and a very vague floater to the far left of my left eye and also a brief flash at night when I turned quickly to the left. I saw my opthamologist 3 days later (17 days after the original trauma). He said I had PVD whch would probably not become a retinal detachment. He also said the flashes would disappear in 2 weeks, but he was indefinite about the Weiss Ring. Will it eventually actually disappear? or go out of my line of vision? or will it stay constantly with my brain adjusting to the point where I will notice it less even though it will still be there?

Thanks. So there's no way to predict which of the 3 possibilties will occur and when??? As for the brief flashes when it's dark, do u agree with my opthamologist's statement that they will disappear approximately 2 weeks after the initial onset?

A Wesin ring is a circular piece of protein where the back jellow like material (vitreous) was attached to the optic nerve. When due to injury or a PVD it pulls off it creates a supersize floater.

In many cases it will settle to the back of the eye and is no longer seen, or it may drift forward towards the nose and the shadown it casts on the retina is ill defined and easy to ignore.

Lastly the brain's neuro-adaptive mechanisms we often just "tune it out" after a period of days to weeks .

If you are curious you can go to Google Images and search "Weiss Ring".
