sharp pain behind my left eye

For about the past three months i get spells of pain behind my left eye. It happens about once every week. It is a very sharp pain that doesnt go away for about 1-3 hours. Somethimes it gets so bad that i throw up, but after throwing up it completely goes away. I have been sleeping it off every time i get it and when i wake up it goes away. I have had eye tests and my vision is fine, i think it might have something to do with my sinuses. It basically feels like some one is ripping and pushing my eye ball out of my head. It has gotten so bad that i think i need expert advice.

Dear andersR,

I would recommend that you seek the care of an eyeMD and have your eyes examined. This may be a migraine or could be something more serious as well.  There are treatments available as this sound as if it is interfering with your normal activities.

Pain that severe should be further investigated. I would suggest seeing a neuro-ophthalmologist. Find one near you at www.aao.org
