What might be the reason behind Eye redness post vitrectomy surgery ?

Hi,

For me, vitrectomy surgery (micro incision) was done on Dec 22nd, 2016. Doctors have informed that till one week I will not be able to see anything through the operated eye. After surgery i was able to see silver colour . And on Dec 24th night, i  started seeing only red colour background and redness in eye was getting increased, so I have been admitted  in hospital and on diagnosis doctors thought it as infection. Now the report of "Gram stain vitreous fluid" test  states that no bacteria seen in vitreous fluid. Please advice what might be the reason behind this eye redness.

This is really a potentially serious problem. You could still have an infection within the eye and not have bacteria seen on gram stain. They will also do cultures which can take several days to grow and likely injected antibiotics within the eye.  Often when people see red the cause is blood within the back of the eye.  Hope things turn out well.

Thanks for your reply. Now today doctors did Vitreous Lavage in Operation theatre. Yesterday itself they have taken sample for "Vitreous tab culture" . For Vitroeus tab culture, report is in progress and the update is no bacteria growth till now. Please advice.
First and foremost take care of your good remaining eye. Why did you have the operation in the first place. Is your other eye healthy?  Both bacterial and virus cultures may take a week or more to get results. Gram stain is only one that can be done immediately but its not always positive even if infected.
Thanks for your reply. Vitrectomy operation was done because blood was bleeding as nerve torn happened in left eye. And i do have -12 (High myophia) in both the eyes and please suggest will this vitreous lavage treatment helps out.
A torn nerve does not cause bleeding. A torn retina or torn blood vessel can cause bleeding. I can't offer a promising prognosis because I don't have all the details of your case. Live a healthy lifestyle and avoid injury to your good eye.
Thank you
Best of luck and good fortune.
