What refrective error Dipoter to select for mini monovision

Hello,

I have a cataract surgery in my right eye(distance, dominant) and I am currently checking out mini monovision in my left eye with contact lens set for refrective errro of -1.5D to simulate mini monovision before going for cataract surgery in my left eye, with(Lft eye) which I can read computer, though to be more sharp and clear I need to go little closer.

When I read for e.g. Iphone screen, it appears that when I start reading it seems fine, but may be after 5 minute, letters appears somewaht fuzzy, but when I move my vision away and back to iphone screen, I can see clearly, so if I read for more than 5 minutes, letters appears fuzzy and mixed up, but if i put reading glass over, I can see letters clearly and for extended time, so I am considering that I should increase my refrective error from
-1.5D to -1.75D so that I have reading capability and I do not mind using glasses for intermediate distance, and in this regard, I have few questions:

1>If I increase from -1.5D to -1.75D will that decrease my intermediate range  and thus may need galsses for computer work if I am more than 1.87 Feet away from computer. 1/1.75 = 1.87 focal point. I know this may not be exact science, but I am trying to see, how much intermediate and how much near vision I can get by increasing to
-1.75D

2>If I decrease from -1.5D to -1.25D, will I decrease my reading vision range and increase intermediate range ?

3>Is there anyway to find what would be your reading range focal point with refrective errro for -1.75D. As I understand 1/Distance(meter) will give focal point for clear distance vision, is there any way to do same for near vision ?

4>It has been 5 days since I have started using contact lens for mini mono vision, so should I expect more clear near vision as time passes and so will be the case for intermediate vision ?

I would be very much thankfulful for answering above questions

-Regards

Hello,

Thnaks for replying.

I have astigmatism in both eyes, I have Toric IOL placed in the right eye.

My left eye do not have that much Cataract yet, but I was thinking on getting cataract removed, however your suggestion for using Crystalens in my left eye (non dominant) started make me thinking, so I have following follow-up questions:

1>Are there any upcoming Toric Crystalens in developement, as my Cataract is not a problem in my left eye, I can wait till that time(hopefully), so that I can get benefit of Crystalens and also get Astigmatism correction at the same time

2>Are there any side effect of combining Toric IOL with Crystalens in another eye ?

3>Even with Crystalens we need to have refrective error set between -0.75 to -1.0 rather than full correction ?

-Thanks

Complete near vision is about 2.5 Diopters and computer is about 1.25 diopters for most people.

1)  Intermediate vision will decrease or your will have to move closer to the monitor.

2) Yes,  3) It depends on how much accommodation you have.

4)  It can take months in some people.  Usually older patients take longer to get used to the monovision.

I usually recommend Crystalens with minimonovision with the non dominant eye set at -.075 to -1.00.  This usually gives a full range of vision.
