Whenever I get mine tested I tense up and it takes them a few times to get a proper reading. I actually start shaking when the techs approach me with that hand held instrument. I do better when the MD does it using the tool on his slit lamp.
Thank you, Dr Hagan. I am highly myopic and have open angle glaucoma, or suspected glaucoma. The two IOP tests were Done only a half hour apart. I am going to assume the difference was due to the testers themselves. .
The drops will not raise the pressure in the eye significantly unless the eye is abnormally shaped (hyperopic) and prone to angle closure glaucoma. Very mild elevations of IOP can occur post dilation. On the other hand the IOP is changing constantly throughout the day so the difference can be normal (think about how your blood pressure and your blood sugar change through out the day) Lastly like checking blood pressure the technique is also subjective depending on both the person being tested (squeezing or not) and the person giving the test. would not worry about it.
