Scarred Retina

I am a 37yr old female.Approximately 2yrs ago I lost all of my eye sight in my left eye.within a 6mth span.I was told by doctors  that I had fluid in the back of my eye and there was nothing that could done. Currently about 3 months ago I started to have blurry vision in the right eye. I once again went to see a doctor. The diagnos that I got was that I have severe scarring of the retina. The doctors are unsure of why or how both retinas got this way but they informed me there is nothing they can do to correct the problem. Can you please help me find some sort of treatment to fix/correct the problem I am desperate to find answers because the right eye is progressing very rapidly.

According to the retina specialist I (Dr.Bazuik),there is no fluid present in my right eye. The only thing she has told me is that their is severe scarring of the retina, and she is not sure what actually is causing the problem. She has also stated that there is nothing that can be done to either stop the loss of vision in my right eye nor is their anything that can be done to correct the problem. When I lost the vision in my left eye the specialist that I saw at that time was the one who told me that I had fluid in the back of my left eye. That was approximately 2yrs. ago. When my current specialist (Dr.Bazuik looked at my left eye she said that I did not have any fluid in the back of my left eye and that my left eye is worse then the right eye. Can you please help me to find a solution to fix/correct the problem with my right eye. If you are unable to help me fix/correct the problem could you please refer me to another docotr for a second opinion? I live in Oshawa,Ontaio

It is difficult to ascertain the proper diagnosis without a photograph of what your retina looks like and whether or not there is fluid present involving the macula, which is the area most responsible for your central vision, but if you haven't already, I would make sure you are seeing an ophthalmologist (eye MD) for your problems and more specifically a retina specialist.  If you are severely nearsighted and have multiple breaks in your retina, a laser procedure can be done to seal off those breaks whereas if you have fluid underneath the retina, you may need a steroid injection or oral course of steroids to shut down any inflammation that may be leading to fluid accumulation.  If the retina specialist is not able to provide a specific diagnosis or at least describe the source of your visual loss, I would seek a second opinion from an additional retina specialist since you have many years ahead of you and should do everything possible to protect your only seeing eye.
