'blister on the white of my eye'

For two days, it felt as though there was something in my eye and yet when I looked, I couldn't see anything.  The feeling continued and on the 3rd day, I noticed what looked like a clear 'glob' on the white of my eye near my bottom eyelid.  I started putting some drops in my eye and by the evening, the sensation had intesified with a slight burning.  I went to my GP yesterday and was sent to the ER.  The eye doctor said I had a blister in my eye and gave me Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment to use 4x day for 10 days and if it hasn't gone then he would puncture the blister.  I asked what would casue such a thing, as I've never heard of a blister on the eye and he had no information.  My Mom looked online last night and found that it can be caused by a staph infection or can be TB related???  Can you please explain what it actually is and how it occurs please?

Thank you!!

Without looking at it I would not be able to tell you what it is.  It could be one of many things.  Chloramphenicol is an old drug and we don't use it often anymore.  Make sure you saw an ophthalmologist and if not, find one and go get a full eye exam to get the correct diagnosis.  "Blister" on the eye is not a real diagnosis, just a layman term to describe what it looks like.  You could find an ophthalmologist in your area by searching at www.aao.org.

I went today and was told that it is a Retention Cyst, with clear fluid.  He took me off the eye ointment and put me on drops to help add moisture as my eyes were very dry.  I'm on HRT, which he said sometimes dries out the eyes.  I was told that if my eye begins to weep or becomes very red, then to go back as this indicates infection.

Thank you for your help!
