can retinal tears recur and does that necessarily to detachment?

Hi! I am 35 years old woman. Last year my eye doc found holes n lattice in my retina and i was treated with laser. Same year another spot appeared in my right eye and i again had it lasered. This year i have again been detected with another lattice in the left eye and my doc has suggested a laser. Meanwhile, i am seeing flashes since my first laser and they have not abated. I am myopic. My question is: 1. Is this recurring of lattice natural? 2. Does this mean that i will have a detachment of retina in future? 3. I had an active lifestyle with regular dance class, trekking and swimming. Can i go back to these activities?

I would suggest you see a different retina surgeon for a second opinion. As I said most lattice itself rarely requires treatment and most small round holes do not need treated.

I still am worried about the flashes that I see. If my retina is okay then why should I see flashes? It has continued for a year now and there are no signs of this getting any better. My doctor once mentioned pvd. But can i get pvd at this age? May be i am bit too worried. But this is scary...

lattice is very common occurring in about 8% of the population. I have lattice in both eyes.  Only a small number of people with lattice get RD.  Most lattice does not have holes. Most holes developing in lattice are small, round and do not have vitreous adherence and thus do not require laser or freezing (cryo) treatment.

I would suggest you see a different retina surgeon for a second opinion. As I said most lattice itself rarely requires treatment and most small round holes do not need treated.

Most of your activities are no problem. i would not do amusement thrill rides or standing on your head yoga.

Get a second opinion from another retina surgeon.
