cataract incision

I had a cataract removed from my left eye on 11/5.  The spot where my incision was has a bump with a dark center.  while it doesn't hurt, I was wondering how long I should expect this bump to remain.  It has not reduced in size, so I know my vision will improve when it does.  I am scheduled to have the right eye done on 12/3 and I cannot afford to have lousy vision in both eyes as I drive to work in the dark and come home in the dark.  Am I being impatient?  I am 52 years old.  Thank you.  Deb

Dear brettspike,

I would recommend that you seek the care of a your eyeMD and ask him or her about the spot you describe.  Also, ask him or her about your reduced vision and what can be done to help you.  It is possible that you may have swelling or a refractive error and treatment may help.  If you do not feel comfortable having surgery on your other eye, wait until your condition is improved in the recently operated eye.

It sounds like your left eye is a little nearsighted.  You will probably want good distance vision in your right eye.  Be sure to discuss this with your doctor before surgery.

My vision is improving, but I still need glasses for distance, which I never used before.  Actually, I was very far sighted, but I can read up close with the "new" eye.  Maybe when I get my other eye done they will balance each other out?

You said that your vision was "lousy."  Why does your doctor think that your vision is poor?  Can it be corrected with glasses?  I would not have surgery on my second eye until I was satisfied with the results of my first eye.

The dr. says it is normal.  He said that is where he makes the incision.  It is on the outside of my iris.

What does your doctor say about your vision?  Why do you think the bump is related to your acuity?
