PRK and dry eyes

To: Michael J Kutryb, MD
Just wanted to update you on my condition, since you were so helpful to me with all of your advice.  The last time I went to my opthalmologist, he said that my eyes had healed very well, that you could not tell that I had PRK done and that I had no dry spots on my eyes.  I discovered that Refresh Celluvisc Lubricane eye drops, which are a very thick gel, has really helped me with my dry eyes.  As far as my vision, I am much better.  Yes, it's been over 7 months but I can get around quite well.  My last appointment, the dr. told me I'm still not at the prescription he zapped me for and that it may take a year.  In the meantime, I can read most things from close up (depending on the distance) and I can drive.  The haze at night isn't all that bad, however, I cannot see well from far away.  I went to see a show and realized I couldn't see the people on the stage whereas my husband, who had mini mono, unlike me who had full mono, could see the performers' faces perfectly.  I like my situation better b/c my husband has to wear reading glasses.  I read most of the day but don't deal with distant objects too often so it works better for me.  So, although I would never advise anyone to have PRK in both eyes at the same time, now that it's all said and done and the time has passed, I am doing ok, despite all the horror I experienced the first months.
I wanted to thank you for your wonderful advice and I think this site is just terrific.

Why don't you get yourself a pair of glasses to wear in the situations where you want to see better.  It sounds like you have settled down a lot.  Yes, Celluvisc if about the best you can get for extreme dryness and I have see nice results with it.  Thanks for the nice comments.  As much as you went through, you might have had even more problems with lasik so you did OK.  Take care.  If you ever make it to this area, I would be glad to help in any way I can.  I also have real PRK, dry eye expert friends in Miami.

Thank you for your response and for your offer to help.  I would be greatly appreciatef your  forwarding the names of the PRK and dry eye experts in my area, not only for myself, but i do have some friends who have dry eye issues as well.  That was very kind of you.  What area are you in?
I will definitely get glasses for distance but I am waiting until my prescription stays in one place.  I had glasses made up to drive twice and they were only good for 2 weeks.
Thank you again.
