cloudly restore lense

I have had cataracts survegy on one eye with restore lense.  The vision is better, however there is no clarity everything looks cloudly.  The question is my doctor has informed me the other eye needs to have a restore lense installed before this problem will clear up.  He claims due to the fact that I"m so near sited that my brain and eyes are not working together, therefore causing the problem.  Your quick response would be appreciated as I am schedule for surgery .

Dear gaytimon,

I echo completely what disappointed66 has to say.  I was fool enough to fall for the "you must have two" line, and did indeed double my trouble and grief.  Just yesterday I had the second Restor explanted and replaced with a *beautiful* tecnis monofocal, at the cost of much worry, anguish and risk.  The Restor cannot hold a candle to a monofocal lens for clarity, it's just that with the monofocals you *will* need glasses for some things, whereas with the Restor you *may* get away without glasses but at the expense of clarity and quality of vision, especially at night!  The price is a terrible one in my opinion, and I would beg anyone not to get a second Restor.

Please take Dr Hagan's advice and get a second or third opinion.  Many reputable doctors will not use this lens, or any multifocal.  Feel no reluctance to cancel surgery - it's your eyesight and your life!  If done early an explant is not out of the question, though every person's risk factors are different.  Please see my own posts, or search this site on "restor, expant, halos, ghosting".

You do not mention what your other eye is like, or whether it has a cataract.  In my view one of the reprehensible features of "multifocal" lenses is the propoganda which encourages people to remove a natural lens in the second eye which may be OK or have problems correctable without invasive surgery just to get double-trouble - agree with OldNavy966.

The surgeons who flog these devices always blame the poor patient's "brain" for the inferior technology with which they are experimenting.  Monofocals + glasses are very easy to get used to in comparison.  I nearly went crazy with the Restors, and am now perfectly happy with my monos + glasses, and was also more peaceful at heart half-blind with cataracts, strange as that may sound.

Regards,
I am genuinely now Restornomore, freed of both Horrors.

From disappointed 66

Before you have the other eye done search features and archives.  I had one Restor lens put in and was told I needed the other one done to get good results. No way was that going in my other eye. Totally agree with OldNavy966.   My decision was to have the first Restor explanted and a monofocal implanted. Right decision! .Check JodieJ, londonbridge, restornomore and my posts.

Disappointed no more with Restor out!

Dr. Hagan is right.  Why go for the double or nothing approach?  Double your problems and double your surgeons profit.

Use the search feature and archives to read about all the other people that have had problems with the ReStor IOL.

Please consider postponing your surgery and get an independent second opinion from a different ophthalmologist that does cataract/IOL surgery. If necessary get a third opinion.

You can double your problem by doing both IOLs.
