"cross eyed"

my husband's eyes keep feeling like he's going "cross eyed". It happens all of a sudden for weeks now. He has to close one eye, sit down and wait a few seconds for it to correct itself. He then feels slightly dizzy and eyes feel a little strained. He's very scared since he drives and is an electrician (it has happened at work too). What can this be?
