elaboration of eye not getting back to normal in a doctors answer please

I think it was little early to say that you would make a complete recovery.  Retinal hemorrages, swelling and even detachments are quite common in this scenario.  Also you could develop glaucoma or a traumatic cataract from the trauma.  I'm not sure about being able to see up close. If you can see, I would consider that a good sign.  I recently saw a kid with same injury from airsoft gun from 6 feet away and he had significant retinal swelling that improved 90% after 2 weeks.  He got back most of his vision but his eye will never be exactly normal again.

This answer was provided by Dr. Michael J Kutryb, MD in response to a question posted by a patient who faced eye injury involving corneal scratche. I am very curious to know the fact doc said that even after retinal swelling got better 90 percent. Why did he say that the eye of the kid would never be exactly normal again? is it due to retinal swelling that permanent damages the eye? If the bb pellet does not penetrate the eye, still this happens at the back of the retina?...I am mainly concerned over the fact that why the eye of the kid will never be normal again in spite of regaining most vision back.
