eye anomaly in central vision (Kaleidoscope)

Hello
I was wondering if you have ever heard of anything like what I am about to describe...
I only see this when I go into a darker area or after sunset when looking at the sky ....It has to be dim light or less light to see it. Also when I close my eyes in the dark I can see it but it eventually "fades"? and is not really noticeable. It looks like a kaleidoscope of tiny circles (each circle is light in color with an actual darker rim) which are actually moving around themselves .... if I let it happen it will open to about double or triple its size but always staying in my central vision and always circular in shape. The smaller circles within the larger circles are moving in a rhythmic way and continuous....like inside a kaleidoscope. I can see through it and the vision is not blurred. No pain, happens all day long and the anomaly is the same in both eyes....
I have seen an eye doctor for this a week ago and was told my eyes seem healthy .. he suggested that maybe its caused by something else... any ideas?
My worst fear is to go blind  :(

Thanks so much

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Various "entopic" phenomenon can be normal. But the causes of pathologic visual phenomenon are legion. The retina can be implicated, the visual cortex (the brain), or other central nervous system changes may be implicated as well along with a multitude of drugs both legal and illegal. It could be as simple as a type of ocular migraine, or seizures of the brain. If you have not seen an Eye MD(an ophthalmologist) see one. If you have already done so, you might consider a neuro-ophthalmologist. You can usually find one at a medical center associated with an ophthalmology training program.
