eye pain after cataract surgery

Four months ago I had cataract surgery.  Right eye went fine.  Left eye is another story.  I have had pain in the left eye continually.  I was told I had an eye lash in my eye, I had my glass lenses changed twice, I was told I had dry eye.  I was given plugs and then got eyelid infection.  I am going to my doctor in a couple of days.  I have used an humidifer and went on eye vitamins.

I still have eye pain.

What should or could happen next?  Should I just learn to live with it?  By the way, drops do not do anything for my pain nor for my dry eye.  The plugs did nothing also.

First of all, I am very sorry about your troubles.  My suggestions:
1. get a second opinion with an Eye MD Ophthalmologist - look at www.aao.org to find one.
2. Try flaxseed oil 1000 mg twice a day and flaxseed oil 500 mg twice a day.

3.  Use a lubricant drop like thera tears about 4-8 times a day

4.  Consider non-dissolving punctal plugs and possibly restasis drops.

5.  Make sure you don't have lid margin disease - the new doctor can look for that.

Good luck with controlling your symptoms.  It will get better.

Dear Defiance,

I would recommend that you seek the care of your eyeMD to determine the cause of your eye pain.  It might be inflammation, ocular surface disease, swelling of the cornea, or an infection of the eyelid to name a few things.

Thanks!  This helped a lot.

Do you mean to take 1500 mg two times a day?

I'm glad to hear it will get better.
