Miranda,

I am curious. Did you ever find an answer to your eye pain. Or, did it ever go away on its own?  Thanks. M

If your eye is not red, if there is no sign of inflammation inside your eye, if the eye is not protruding, if the eye pressure is not high, and if the pain is not related to reading or close work, it is extremely unlikely that the problem is in your eye. Most likely you are getting referred pain from something else. A neuralgia in the trigeminal nerve? From what? If the eye signs have been eliminated as you say, you probably need an MRI. As a side note, just because your primary said there was no sinus problem is not reassuring at all. Make sure the MRI cuts through the eye socket and the sinuses. By the way, you can get pain around your eye from your neck. If you press under the bony ridge at the base of the skull from the midline of the back of your neck towards your ear, do you find a point of tenderness? If so, you may have a problem with the "greater occipital nerve" which can refer pain to the area around the eye on that side.

Thank you  for responding, to answer your question  no my eye  isnt red My primary care doctor said that there is no sinus problem also the opt did say that the pressure in my right eye was different then the left eye, but my blood pressure is normal. The opt also said he saw no infection nothing with my vision either i do not wear contacts or glasses. the opt told me that he believes something else is causing my pain my eye ball  and eye lid are sore feel like i was hit in the eye, i have pain above the eye different then a headache its more of a pain it is also on the outter side of my eye and also under the eye, i went to urgent care because my vision had even become blurred. opt says that there is nothing wrong with my eyes but when i am laying down i had the feeling of my eye ball coming out. it has never been a problem for me before i am 41 years old the opt gave me steroid drops and artifical tears nothing stops the pain for long it came back today so strong. any ideas thanks again for your response

Is your eye red or not? Didn't the ophthalmologist even note that the eye was red?
Anybody mention the possibility of sinus congestion/infection, a common cause of pain around the eye. What is your age? Is there pain on motion of the eye? Is the pain always in the same eye? Does your eye protrude? Is your eye pressure normal? What makes the pain worse or better? When is it worse?

If you need a CT scan, then you need it. You should not settle for your insurance company not covering this. Sometimes your doctor may be able to send a letter explaining why it is needed or there are often state insurance boards which you may wish to investigate this action from your insurance company. Ask your state representative or senator about this.

You may also ask how much the CT scan is. It might not be as much as you think.

You may also wish to see a neurologist.  Good luck.
