eyesight deteriorating

i recently went for laser eye surgery and they said that i am not eligible as my sight in my right eye has deteriorated too much. last year it was -7.5 and they said now it is -11.5. they referred me to my normal opticians and they said my right eye is -9.5 but they dont know why it has deteriorated so much. they have referred me to a eye specialist . does anyone know why their is a difference between the two and what possible reasons could it be why it has deteriorated so much and what will the eye specialist do?

You have high myopia. the mechanism and genetics of high myopia progression are not completely understood. There is an epidemic of myopia world wide especially among Asians. In 20 years projections indicate most people would be myopic unless a prevention is found. You do need to see an eye MD ophthalmologist.  High myopia can also be associated with higher rates of glaucoma, cataract and myopic macular degeneration, retinal detachment.
