laser surgery to kill eyes blood vescles

VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI wants to kill new blood vescles and part of the eye that asks for them.

They are growing in my left eye after a stroke damaged the optic nerve. Should I do this?

My vision is getting better (it seems) since the growing vescles and I hesitate "closing the door" on future technology that might cure my vision problem in that eye. The Dr. says I'll have pain in the future (none now) and the vescles may cause dammage but didn't say how.

Thank you for your response. At least I know more now to base my decision upon. I do want to protect my right eye and it sounds like that is part of what this surgery does.

Yes,  most likely you have neo vascularization caused by retinal ischemia.  This can lead to a vitreous hemorrhage and lead to loss of vision, but more seriously it can lead to neovascular glaucoma.  This is very difficult to control and will lead to total loss of vision and severe pain.
