Irregular Astigmatism with cornea scar

Six months ago I had a virus in my eye which was later diagnosed as EKC.  I have battled with corneal infitrates and have been on and off steroids.  Now I am faced with dealing with permanant vision damage with has drastically altered my quality of life.  I can no longer see well at night because of the halo's and starburst and during the day unless I am in natural sunlight outside I can't clearly see faces and objects in the room due to glare from what the doctor says is irregular astigmatism.  I have also been told that glasses won't fix the problem and that the only way I would see somewhat better is if I switched from soft lenses to RGP.   Well I went ahead and ordered them because I thought it was worth the shot but now I am scared that it will make my astigmatism and scarring worse.  I'm so upset that my options are limited and that I am left with this condition because of a stupid case of pinkeye.  Does anyone have any advise or am I just going to have to live with the fact that I will never be able to see like I used to?  Let me Also add that I am highly myopic and 32 years old.

I have been under the care of several opthomalogist and most recently a corneal specialist at University of Alabama Birmingham....he was the one that told me that I had some scarring and he also did a corneal topogrophy that told him that my astigmatism was irregular...he was the one that suggested that I be fitted for RGP contacts...they are not recommending that I undergo surgery for removal of corneal surface because it could potentially make the problem worse....and that RGP are really the only way I may see higher quality....I have been wearing soft contacts but still not seeing clearly...ayb...what is ICL?

Dear Allie719,

I would recommend that you find out more about the scarring that is causing irregularity.   I would find out more about the infiltrates, if they responded to the steroid treatment.  If you still have questions, seek the care of a corneal specialist.
