no red reflex

i noticed my son squinting and then what seemed like a blue cloudy glaze over his pupil took him doctors he has no red reflex and he has refered him im very worryed what could this be?

This sounds like a very significant abnormality and I'm very sorry.  It could several different things from a cataract, to glaucoma, to a corneal or lens abnormailty present from birth, to a retinal detachment or rarely even a tumor.  It is extremely important to have him see a specialist right away.  Again, this could be so many different things, hopefully, it is something treatable like a cataract.

hello id like to thank you for your advice and to tell you that after visiting eye casualty today i didnt want to wait for referal i have been told my son has a cataract,which will need a operation and a patch on good eye for 8 hrs a day for 6-8 years.
this is a shock but thank god it wasnt anything worse.
thank you again and plz people dont wait before taking you or your child.sarah
