post cataract surgery problems - solutions?

hello there

my mom had cataract surgery in both eyes about a half year ago. she is 60 years old. ever since the surgery, she has had numerous problems and i really would appreciate someone's help in figuring out a solution to the problem as she is suffering quite a bit on a daily basis. here are the symptoms she is experiencing:

- constant pain and burning sensations
- sensitivity to light (photophobia)
- red and dry
- tearing
- very tiring
- pain even while sleeping

she mentioned she feels a bit better during the evening, but pretty much most of the time she is experiencing the problems outlined above

she is also using various medicines to alleviate the issues:

- vigamox (stopped after surgery)
- nevanac (anti-inflammatory)
- omnifred / pred forte (anti-inflammatory). using the latter 2x/day right now
- betimol (use once in left eye due to high pressure, stop when chest discomfort starts)

these medicines don't appear to be too helpful at the moment

she has seen numerous opthamologists, but none are able to make any headway into determining a solution to her problem. most of them think it is iritis, but my inkling is to believe there is something more serious that is causing these complications. if an expert could please help out with this, i would sincerely appreciate it. in the meantime, i have recommended that she uses a humidifier to keep her eye moist and to wear sunglasses/glasses to minimize exposure to sun, wind, etc

thank you so much in advance

Hi, I had cataract surgery Nov 14th, all went very well no complications at all .My vision is fantastic. However yesterday just out of the blue when I got up I felt something wrong. My vision is cloudy and I now have floaters, like specks of dirt in my eye. Is this something serious or is it something quite normal ,and what should I do?
Thanks cookie 65

I think Dr Feldman was suggesting your mother se an Eye, Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist. This is different than an opthalmologist.

Dear jellyfishcake,

There are many conditions which may cause the symptoms your mom is experiencing.  I would recommend that your mom seek the care of an eyeMD to determine the cause. There are many possible causes including persistent inflammation, corneal swelling, dryness, residual refractive error and strain.
