pterygium surgery

I had pterygium surgery 3 months ago with a well known, very experienced, expert DR in this field in CA. The day after surgery, i took off my eye patch & the graft was very raised up. A week later i saw dr for post op & he said it would flatten out.
Just saw him a week ago because the graft started feeling dry, sore, uncomfortable. Dr was puzzled...when he looked at my eye he said there is a white raised area next to the incision that is fibrous scar tissue...so part of the graft is still raised up. (i had surgery in my other eye & had no problems whatsoever..the tissue graft was smooth & flush from day 1...no pain or no eyedrops needed at this point...been 6 wks) What would cause scar tissue? Will it get better? Will the graft completely smooth out & blend in time? and...discomfort lessen?...I am so disappointed & devastated actually as i researched this & suffered with this disease for years. I was so looking forward to getting my life back without being im pain 24/7.Also, the DR said he would NOT do surgery again on this eye. Gave no reason. Your thoughts would be appreciated...Thanks

Dear DeeDee2533,

There are many reasons why grafts can appear white or bunched.  As I am unaware as to the type of graft, i.e. conjunctival autograft or amniotic membrane graft which was used, the course may vary a little.  I would recommend that you try to call your eyeMD and find out more information about the exact surgical procedure, nature of your condition presently, and why he does not recommend additional procedure.
