My husband had a combined macular hole repair and cataract operation 5 days ago and was face down for 3 days as instructed by the surgeon. Unfortunately he had a nasty reaction to the Diamox drug (similar to really bad food poisoning) and I called the surgeon who saw him to check him out and confirmed as there was no pressure in the eye he could discontinue the drug. This reaction has left him very weak but he has been reassured the eye is doing fine. What I am concerned about is that he is terribly sensitive to light and this seems to be increasing and he also has mild pain (not enough to take a pill). He is so light sensitive that he is staying in a darked room and passes the time listening to Talking Books on CD (a tremendous aid to boredom). Is this sensitivity normal in the early stage of recovery? He has another appointment with the surgeon in 5 days but he seems to be worse than he was the day following surgery.
