retina detachment with oil

I had detached retina surgery last May with oil. I have not been able to see anything but some light and colors. Two weeks ago oil was removed and gas replaced it. I was told my vision shoud return an about a wee. It is much better but not at all clear. I can not see to read with other eye covered or make out who someone is unless I know who it is. I can tell it is a person. That's all. I had office visit yesterday and he said it looks good and lets give it two more weeks then I may possibly have to replace implant. He never said anything about any kind of implant before. What is he talking about? I also have this very annoying circle outline like the frame of a magnifying glass if I look down. Anyone else had this occurance and if so has vision returned to somewhat normal? I am normally very active, love to read, cook garden, make beaded jewelry and wall hangings, sew,  paint anything and everything, make mosaics and various crafts. Obviously I am frustrated due to this eye problem.

Thank you so much. I had catarac surgery on that eye 3 years ago and lens cleared a year ago. I guess I just need a new lens again.

After retinal detachment surgery involving vitrectomy and gas and/or oil, it is very common to develop a cataract.  This is a clouding of the eye's natural lens.  If needed, the cataract is removed by a process called phacoemulsification, and the clouded lens is replaced with a clear intraocular lens implant.  The circle you are seeing might be a residual gas bubble in the eye, which will absorb in time.
