It need not be. Find a very competent ophthalmologist, ideally a corneal external disease specialist and start working your way through therapy. If' its that severe the soon you go on restasis the better. (My wife has been on restasis for 4 years and its made a huge difference to her) plus one of the oral over the counter pills for dry eyes or fish oil and tear duct plugs plus one of the newest artifical tears/gels/ointments

Dry eyes can be a life-long problem especially for menopausal or post menopausal females. Go to Dr. Hagan's Blog and read the section on it; read the "General information on Dry eyes" in "Today's Pulse" also use the archives and search feature.
