Corneal transplants and life side effects

Hello, I had both my eye with cornea transplants over 2 years ago and had a few questions. I wanted to know about lifting restrictions for the rest of my life. I had my original restriction removed but in my line of work I have to lift constantly over 50 pound for about 8 hours. I wanted to know if this can effect my transplants? Secondly in my line of work there are day that I have to work 16 hour or more and there is a point where I feel that my eye are burning and they get very teary that I cant even open them much. I wanted to know if this is normal of cornea transplant or should I be placed with a restriction of work hours per day?

It seems to me that the 16 hoour work days are going to give you serious eyestrain and could cause you have more problems such as corneal drying and irritation.  I suggest you do have some type of work restriction in place to avoid overstressing your eyes.  Regarding the lifting, if you feel good and are not overstressing your body then I don't see how that would hurt your eyes.  If you are sweating all day and getting sweat and debris in the eyes that would be a bad idea.

Dear oomarkloo,

These are very good questions and different issues.  Although we allow patients to fully resume activities, the corneal transplant wounds never completely heal with the same structural supports as one’s natural cornea.  With regards to the burning and tearing, I would recommend that you see your eyeMd to determine the cause and what they advise with respect to work.

Hi. I have corneal ulcers due to herpe symplex 1.  My eye perforated about 1 month ago and was glued.  i now have a black spot somewhat in front of my eye and blurred vision that I think is throwing of my eyesight of my other eye. MY right eye is 20/20. I am legally blind in my left eye since 2.  But now my left pupil is not dialating at the same size as my right.  Is this to do with the perforation and gluing?

I was  diagnosed with  Fuchs  cornea  dystrophy  last  year-  I went in to have surgery for  cataracts when this was found. orignial Dr  told me  the cataract surgery would cause me to  lose more cells  in my cornea.  Had to have  cataract surgery  anyway  catatacts  were so bad- My  Eye Dr says  maybe  I won't have a problem with the Fuchs  cornea  Dystrophy but  after  4 months from the cataract surgery  my rt. eye  is very  red and blurry some of the time--Not always--but  it feels like something  in my eye. I am using  systane eye drops  in  my eyes  very often. How long  does  it take for the  cornea dystrophy  to  get bad after  the cataract  surgery  is performed?  I am hoping  I don't have to go  there--I am so afraid of the cornea surgery/
