spot in my vision

I see a spot, similar to the afterimage of a flash bulb, when I blink. When the "spot" in my visual field passes over a dark background, the spot appears light. When the spot passes over a light background, it appears dark. I had gall bladder surgery last week and I immediately noticed this condition when I woke up in the recovery room. My theory is the light above the operating table was bright and possibly burned it's image into my eyes. Could the be the cause and is this going to be permanent?
Thanks

I have the exact same thing and would be most interested in what your doctor has to say. No cause for mine has been found.

Yes, that is good advice thank you. Since the spot has not gone away after almost 2 weeks I plan on making an appointment with my eye doc immediately. My intent in posting here is also to find out if others out there have experienced this issue and if it is common.
How about it, anyone else experience this?
Thanks

Dear vintagecarbuff,

I would recommend that you seek the care of an eyeMD to determine an appropriate diagnosis.
