swelling of optical nerve

I am 26 yrs old and have been having an issue with my optical nerves being swollen for about 8 yrs and have had spinal taps to reduce the swelling. There have been times before I had my first spinal tap when my vision was blurred and a few times I would see dots or nothing at all for a moment and then it would become normal. At night it is really hard to see with all the lights from cars and street lights. I also suffer from migraines and that was found out when I was 9yrs old and I am currently taking medication for this right now and another one that is suppose to reduce the swelling. Because of my migraines I have also had MRI's and CAT scans done.  I have been seeing a  neurologist and an ophthalmologist and they have both said they can not figure out what is happening. Is there anything that I can do or suggest to them to try so that we can get this figure out.

I have been dealing with the same situation for several years. I was diagnosed by my neurologist of having the pseudotumor cerebri. What I was told is that once you have it the possiblity of it coming back is high. Some doctors choose to keep you on the medicines. This will contribute to the migraines. Keep pushing them for answers. They can also use steroids to help with the swelling.

Ask them if you have pseudotumor cerebri. It sounds like that's what you have. If so ask them about trying Diamox to lower the pressure in the brain.
