to KG17- social sight issues

Had dinner with the minister of the church we are donating large print hymnals to and he was amazed of the amount of ( older ) people who just didn't participate because of their sight and NEVER said a word .

You also touched on a very accurate issue when dealing with sight impaired-
When you look at someone with a cast on their leg or no leg you immediately
recognize this and realize the persons limitations. If you walk into a room with someone
suffering low vision and see them sitting there talking with others-that person looks 100 % normal and assume no limitations.   I met and talked with a former accountant with Mac degenration and he told me that his wife did the accounting under his supervision for three years until Disability deemed him blind enough for benifits. He said in no way could he do his job yet because he walked into the room--drank coffee and didn't trip over chairs he was not seen as disabled.
Also some doctors do go the extra step- I was declined disability because they said my sight was poor enough to not do the job I had done for 30 years but could do something requiring lower vision .  I told my orthopedic surgeon this and he went bonkers- He said he literally sees dozens of patients on Disability with much less severe joint injuries than I have . They can see perfectly well yet are on disability. He filled out a function capacity report and wrote a letter to disability in reguards to my " joint " conditions and gave his phone number and asked to call if any questions. Unbelievable - he didn't have to do any of this .- even though with decent vision I could still be working- My lawyer feels I will be awarded disability for my Joint issues and not my sight-- Totally wrong .  I really could perform my job without a right hand or right leg-but no way with current vision . I wish some of my eye docs would have been as concerned as my Orthopedic surgeon
was- I was told  Too busy for all the paperwork- and others didn't have time do do any more than send office visit and surgery reports - My current doc initialed a typed review I do between visits and  sent with exam reports , which is more than any other. ( sorry not true my current Retina surgeon dictated a letter and stated that he is doing all he can and HOPEFULLY the patients vision will not decline any further . )    I actually was told by a doctor at a larger hospital
eye center  ( after I called reporting pain and  blurry vision ) that emergency appointments are for serious injury and they are not alloted time for diagnosing and treating regular conditions . Fired them !!!  I guess we just don't live in a perfect world and must just do the best we can to overcome.

Hooray for your Orthopedists. I had two of them lie to the feds. One retracted but the other did not. I was forced to sell my house because my worker's comp was cut off. I get 475 from disability because of a glitch in the law concerning educators. Fortunately, I do get an annuity. I am struggling to go back to work. I want to do some things for my daughter. Her father and I were extremely wealthy, but he managed to get all the money away from my daughter and I. He died recently, and left her nothing. He had used all of her money in trust.

Not to boast, but I am a very talented and resourceful person. Yet if I lost more of my sight I would be in deep trouble, because I have no emotional support, except some from professionals.

As an educator, I love to help my students. I help very disadvantaged students. I must believe that there are some doctors who believe as I do: we never know anyone potential, until we do the best we can to help them reach it, and support them on their way.

My own mentor helped me tremendously in the last week. I am making lemonade. I always do. I have finished my doctorate in effect, suring my eye surgeries, and I have been told that, as I hoped, that it has potential to be published.

I am really sorry about your vision loss. Whether you take legal action is your decision regarding the best way to take care of your self, physically and spiritually, in a just manner, while doing no wrong to anyone. That's the way I look at it.
