treating of red eye

Hello!

I've had a surgery in my eye because of retina detachment, and some other sugeries afterwards.
I'm done with the surgeries now, as my retina is in place. But my eye is still red.

He told me that because of this ring around my eye (I think 'Scleral buckle' is the right term), which helped my retina in place, the redness in my eye will be chronic, and probably not go away.

This is only cosmetic, and because of that, they will much likely will not remove the ring.
Has to be said, that i got another surgery where they injected silicone oil, because the first surgery didn't work, so the ring doesn't have any effect now? Or does it still help the retina in place?

Will taking Visine or other similiar drugs be a bad thing? We are talking about using it 1 day a week or so, if im going out. Ofcourse not everyday use.

Hope you can help.
Regards, Steffen.

Leave the Buckle in place. Redness can be treated with Visine, but as you suggested this can be an issue over time. Try to be conservative with it and also consider preservative free tear drops.

Oh, actually have a bonus question, which i hoped you could answer.

Contact lenses and redness. I have not tried putting in contact lenses so far, because i thought it was inflammation that caused the eye redness.

Would contact lenses do any harm? Will the redness get worse? Hope you can clarify this :)
