twitching , dry eyes and eye pain/strain

I went to see my eye doctor becaue my eyes were bothering me - my left eye felt like something was in it.  My doc told me I had overworn my contact lenses. I have since stopped wearing my contact lenses (about a month now).  My eyes are very dry now although there has been a lot  of imporvement since the first 2 weeks, and  my left eye twitches all the time.  Any tme I put eye drops in, sneeze, stretch  or sitting still, my eye start to twitch.  also, both eyes feel strained at different times throughout the day.  I have started to take breaks from staring at my computer and it temporarily helps.  I have another appointment to make sure my eye is OK. Can eye doctors tell if there is a serious issue or would i need to go to a specialists?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
If your eye doctor is an eye MD or ophthalmologist, he or she could diagnose any problems be it with the eye, nervous system, or general health (or at least point you in the right direction).  If your eye doctor is not an MD or medical doctor, they could only examine your eyes and don't have the training required to diagnose other general conditions.

thank youfor answering my question.  As of last night, my left eye is slightly swollen (eyeball and lid). My eyey doctor won't be available until Tuesday - next week.  Any tips to get the swelling down?  I still have teh steroid eye drops from the initial injury - should I take it again?
